“We received the information at the call centre a bit late. However, we provided the immediate relief within five days of the death”, said Bima Mitra Podduturi Indira as she talked about the claim settlement of Gangu.
“I managed all the expenses on the day of the funeral as I have three sons who are earning members in the family. My two sons had been to the Gulf countries and are comparatively well settled”, said Gangu as she gave an introduction about her family.
Her policy holder husband had died a natural death and hence Gangu got Rs. 25,000 towards the remaining amount in the insurance claim after due settlement. She was paid the money within three months of the death of her husband.
“As my eldest son is financially the weakest among the three, I loaned the money to him. I am happy to be a beneficiary of the insurance scheme as I could be of help to my children”, Gangu said.
The son in question purchased a piece of land with the money his mother gave him. He did well in farming in the first season in 2011.
Gangu does not depend much on her children for her upkeep. She receives a pension of Rs. 500 per month under the Abhayahastham scheme.
“I purchase uppu (salt), noone (oil) with the money. The scheme is really beneficial”, she said.
