Community Managed Micro Insurance

Mr. Ajomodding hires an autorickshaw every day and managed to earn about Rs. 150-Rs 200 a day. His wife Thiaseen Begum, was member of Mogaliuvvu SHG and doubled up as a farm labourer earning meagre wages. The income of the couple would barely take care of their family needs. The couple have four children, three sons and a daughter.

Thiaseen Begum underwent open heart surgery at Medwin Hospital under the Arogyasri health scheme but also spent Rs. 10,000 from the pocket on other needs during hospitalisation. After the successful operation she was leading normal life but one day she developed health complication and was rushed to Zaheerabad Government Hospital, where efforts to revive her failed and she passed away.

The local Community Activist (CA), Mrs. Kavitha informed about the death to the Call centre. Local Bima Mitra Mrs. B. Anasuya met the family and handed over the Immediate Death Relief Fund.

Mr. Ajimoddin said: “We are very poor and we do not have immediate money to meet this kind of situations, when the SHG leaders and Bima Mitra called me and handed over Rs.5000, I was surprised and have no words to express my gratitude, I was not aware of this kind of benefits. With the money we could perform my wife’s last rites, without any financial hurdle.”

After that Mrs. Kavitha informed about the claim amount and she personally helped him to submit the required documents. After receiving the amount of Rs.25000 through on line, he deposited in Bank for his daughter’s marriage.
